Make Presenting a Pleasure, Not a Pain

Hear it from your favour meeting room

You know we love getting the chance to chat all things meeting rooms. And today, we’re geeking out on presentations.

Yeah, that’s right.

Presentations tend to get a bad rap – all the way from those early elementary school speeches up to when you’re delivering Q4 results in a stacked boardroom. But it’s not actually all that bad when you know how to do it.

So, take a breath, relax, and follow these tips on how to make your next presentation a pleasure, not a pain.

Subhead: Start with the Right People in the Room

Before you think about slides, think about your audience. Who needs to be there? Bringing the right people into the room can make your valuable time together more productive and meaningful.

Consider who’s most appropriate for your presentation’s needs, including things like decision making, relevant experience and actioning next steps. Smaller, focused groups tend to be more effective than a bloated room of people.

Presenting to clients or external partners? Take a moment to understand who’s attending and what’s important to them – a well-tailored presentation will value your audience’s time and perspective.

Subhead: Focus on Quality Over Quantity

A strong presentation doesn’t try to say everything. Instead, it focuses on the information that matters most.

Start with a clear objective. Ask yourself: What do I want my audience to understand, remember or do when this presentation is over? Build your content around that goal.

Keep slides clean and easy to follow. Use concise headlines, relevant visuals and enough white space to avoid overwhelming your audience. Your slides should support what you’re saying – not compete with you for attention.

And always proofread. Typos, inconsistent formatting and outdated information can distract from an otherwise polished presentation.

Subhead: Present, Don’t Just Read

The best presentations feel like conversations rather than a performance.

First and foremost, know your material. Reading off your screen is the quickest way to alienate your audience and kill the vibe.

A little mirror practice never hurt. Get comfortable flowing between different sections of your presentations without the impression of it feeling mechanical. This goes for your cadence, too – speak clearly, vary your pace and pause occasionally for dramatic effect.

Most importantly, pay attention to your audience. Are they engaged? Do they look confused? Are questions coming up? If you forget about who you’re presenting to, they’ll forget who’s presenting to them.

And finally, leave time for discussion. The presentation is just the setup to the valuable conversation that follows. If you did everything right, this part should feel like a nice treat.

Feeling that extra dose of confidence yet? Of course you are. Book your next meeting room that and let everyone see those sweet presenting skills.
